I talked my mom through uploading her photos to flickr, so now there's a whole new chunk of China pics to organize. None of them are visible right now, she wanted them private till I'd arranged them, so there's nothing to see yet. She's, you know, older generation, pretty intimidated by computers and internet, but she follows directions quite well so getting them uploaded was reasonably painless. Using the shift key to select a sequence of items completely blew her mind. "That's AMAZING!!" :) In another time, she'd have been a whiz.

Research is frustrating/awesome right now; I guess slightly positive over all.

Gilda chewed through [info]mystickeeper 's  laptop power cord last night, while I was out.  Lame!  I'm kind of surprised at her, she's not usually so destructive.  Replacement cable and shipping was $44, which is about a quarter of what every kitty-UTI costs me.

Today we're going to the fair!  I've never been to this one.  Yay funnel-cake!

Yesterday, flights at JFK airport were delayed by 90 minutes because turtles were having sex on the runway.  There were 78 of them.  Turtles.  Having sex.  *dies with happiness*

My mom wants her pictures to go in the flickr page too, but is too intimidated to put them online herself. So they're going to load the pictures onto a thumbdrive and mail it to me, so I can do it for her. :) Chris says I shouldn't underestimate the bandwidth of a truck doing 60 on the highway.

Yay weekend! Weekend days are *way* better than weekdays, especially now that I live with people.

Who knew there were so many LJ themes? There seriously didn't used to be so many.

So I ordered a Philosophy face wash and moisturizer from amazon, and they came on Thursday. They're really nice, and from the text on the bottles I imagine the skin on my face is approaching perfect serenity.

I've decided to experiment with making yogurt. Boiled milk is cooling on the stove right now. Once it's cool enough I'll put in the cultures I got from the co-op last night, then leave the bowl, wrapped in towels, in the slow cooker for the afternoon. I'm not sure the slow-cooker is in the right temperature range. Hopefully it's awesome. :)

It's hotter than hell outside, worse than yesterday. Suzette said her apartment was over 100 degrees yesterday afternoon, so we said she should bring her dog into the office.

I have ordered some expensive toiletries. I should send an appreciative note to the aunt who's birthday gift made that purchase possible.

So this was a really nice weekend. Saturday was Shelley and Andy's NCF alum BBQ, very comfortable and relaxed, with *several kinds* of fake meat on the grill. On Sunday we had people over for brunch. I love those brunches (any excuse for more breakfast is ok by me) but seriously, coffee and whiskey at 11:30 in the morning means I'm sleepy all day. Awfully tasty, though.

I love the new apartment! My room has come together pretty nicely, I'll post pictures once I clean up a bit. I also think that having people around means the cats are less frantic for my attention all the time.

I'm making an online photo-diary thingy for the trip to China. I'll post a link when it's done.

Hi, friendslist. Does anyone have a facial moisturizer and/or eye cream that's really wonderful? I keep finding ones that are oily or greasy, or that smell bad, and it finally occurred to me that I could ask here for recommendations, instead of working through every moisturizer in the drug store.

I do not have time to post for real right now, but I need to share.  Chris was setting up our wireless internet at home, and called ATT to ask about the program they have you install (which it turns out was broken.)  He talked to the tech guy for a while.  Over the course of the conversation they got the wireless set up, and then because Chris was knowledgeable, the tech guy ended up asking CHRIS for advice on configuring the TECH GUY'S wireless router at home.  And Chris HELPED HIM.

I feel like there's a Chuck Norris-type joke in here.  When the Hammer calls tech support, he helps technicians set up their internet.

Today's my big packing day, it's time to disassemble the bed and table and everything.  The packing is going pretty quickly, I think because I'm being completely indescriminent about keeping my boxes organized.  In addition, I've lost my sharpie (my mom thinks I probably packed it) so none of my boxes are labeled.  Some of them are labeled incorrectly, left over from last time I used them to move.  Unpacking is going to be awesome!  :p

Sometime today I'm going to take the computer apart.  I have my netbook, so I won't be completely lost to the internet.

The packing continues.  I'm trying to get this done as quickly as possible to minimize the time spent surrounded by boxes and empty furniture.  The Hammer and I are renting a truck on Sunday to move all the boxes; if I'm packed enough I'm going to move furniture too.  Does anyone feel like helping?  It's so much easier with a bunch of people.  We will ply you with takeout and booze, and eternal gratitude.
